Brief Background

The Company is one of the leading players in the international Printed Circuit Boards manufacturing business . The Company provides products and services to global mobile phone manufacturers and employs high end technology for production. As part of the Company's global strategy to focus on high growth markets in Asia, the company wished to enter  the Indian market.

Our approach

At the time of the company approaching us, there were not many organized printed circuit board manufacturers in the country nor was there any known precedent for setting up printed circuit manufacturing plant in India. We started off collecting market intelligence on a) PCB operators in the country to find out if there are opportunities for a joint venture or for an acquisition, b) rules and regulations for setting up a green field facility, especially on the environmental aspects being a “Red” category project c) and the availability of a supply chain for this type of an industry. As a result of our systematic analysis of the market, we narrowed down on the metro of Chennai for locating their manufacturing plant.

Once the decision for entry strategy was finalized, we started developing the Business plan and financial model for the India Project along with the client's global team. We provided key inputs on the costs (Opex, Capex) and recommended corporate structure best suitable for Indian conditions. Among the various incentives provided by Government of India for manufacturing and exports, we zoomed in on “Special Economic Zones” (SEZ) scheme which later went onto become very popular across sectors for setting up fresh investments within the country. Based on our recommendations, the Company took up space in Nokia Telecom SEZ near Chennai.

 
On the execution front, we guided the Company in setting up the Indian subsidiary during the incorporation and registrations stage, setting up banking operations, renting office space in Chennai, relocation of key personnel, selection and recruitment of key members for the India project and in identifying service providers for various activities like statutory filing of monthly returns, Environment Impact Assessment Study etc.

 
Our team co-ordinated the complete regulatory and approval process for the Company and successfully obtained all approvals from State and Central Governmental agencies. We also worked very closely with Development Commissioner’s office in Chennai in obtaining SEZ unit approval. Significant amount of resources and time was spent on environmental aspects and in convincing State level officials about the risk mitigation measures adopted by the company globally.


Key achievements

As a result of our step-by-step systematic approach, the Company was able to conclude all regulatory approvals as per agreed timelines. The client saved significant amount of time and hassle in setting up their green field facility. Our’s role and value addition was not restricted to generating market reports or strategy development. We actually worked with the Company as an extension of their team to get the project off the ground.
